Freeze grips portions of Northeast Florida, Southeast Georgia

People across Northeast Florida and Southeast Georgia were finding ways to keep warm Friday night, with a freeze warning in effect.

The Affordable Fence and Firewood Company in Jacksonville was busy nonstop Friday night. People stopped by, picking up and loading firewood into their cars.

“Oh yes, this is just over the last day or two. I’m sure the colder it gets, the more business we’re going to get. Last year, it doubled in business,” said Carol Sanders with Affordable Fence and Firewood.

First Alert Chief Meteorologist Mike Buresh said parts of the viewing area were under a freeze warning. Friday was one of the coldest days of the season.

The high temps for the day didn’t even get out of the 50s, and as the night continues, it will just get colder, making the night a busy one for crews at Snyder Heating and Air Conditioning.

“We have 24-hour emergency service. I do expect that there’ll be quite a few phone calls; tonight, we’ll probably take over 100 phone calls, just between 6 p.m. and 7 a.m., especially as the wee hours come and it’ll get really cold," said Tim Wood.
