Jacksonville woman among two people killed in crashes on I-10 in Jacksonville

UPDATE: Family, friends remember 2 people killed in crashes on I-10 in Jacksonville

A 36-year-old Jacksonville woman was one of two people killed in crashes on I-10 Friday afternoon.

Callie Crump was killed and six other people were injured after a car hit the back of Crump's car while she was stopped in traffic near Highway 301.

A Ford Expedition crashed into her Toyota Corolla and another car, causing Crump's car to hit a Jeep Patriot and a guard rail.

"Callie exemplified all the best qualities we wish we had — kindness, generosity, humility, faithfulness and selflessness," her friend David Johnson said.

He said they worked together at the JAX Chamber, and that Crump loved her dog Buddy.

"Callie enjoyed singing in her church, making scarves for friends, and doting on her dog," he said. "She was a lovely person."

An infant, a 2-year-old boy and a 10-year-old were among five people who were injured inside the Expedition.

A 77-year-old man from Atlantic Beach who was driving the Patriot also had serious injuries.

No one was injured in the fourth car.

Ten minutes before the four-car crash, a man flipped his Kia Soul a few miles away.

Harold Payne, 44, was pronounced dead after the crash near Hammond Road, 12 miles from where Crump was killed.

Three other people including a 12-year-old inside the Soul were seriously hurt.

Only the child was wearing a seat belt.

Charges are pending in both crashes.

I'm heartbroken to learn that Callie Crump died in a car accident while returning from a holiday visit with family this...
