Gainesville police arrest bank robbery suspect after searching near UF

Gainesville police on Tuesday evening arrested a bank robbery suspect.

The search for suspect William Rossignol took place near the University of Florida. During the search, residents of the Lexington Crossing and Serenola to shelter in place because they believed Rossignol may be armed.

After uniformed officers began to leave the perimeter, Rossignol was spotted at SW 31st Drive and 41st Place. He was taken into custody without incident.

Police said Rossignol robbed a Campus USA Credit Union on Archer Road around 1:45 p.m. Tuesday by handing the teller a note and pulling up his shirt to show he had a gun.

He then got inside a grey Honda Accord and fled the area. A Gainesville officer chased him to the southwest side of the city, where the car crashed at Lexington Crossing Phase 2.

The suspect then took off on foot.

Police said Rossignol a man also suspected in a recent robbery at a Wells Fargo. Rossignol will face charges of armed robbery and other weapons-related charges.
