Ginger and Aku: Baby walruses make public debut at SeaWorld

Two walrus calves are making their public debut at SeaWorld Orlando Wednesday.

Aku and Ginger were introduced to one another in November.

Aku was rescued from a gold mining dredge off the coast of Alaska and Ginger was born at SeaWorld Orlando in June.

The U.S. Fish and Wildlife services decided to send Aku to SeaWorld Orlando because of Ginger's age and suitability as a companion, according to SeaWorld officials.

Park visitors will be able to see the two socialize, play with enrichment devices, interact with care staff and view bottle feedings.

Ginger and Aku will be in the same enclosure as harbor seals.

Walruses are an endangered species and face significant threats including habitat loss and dwindling food supply.
