Glynn County discovers $7 million error in school budget

GLYNN COUNTY, Ga. — The Glynn County School District discovered a $7 million error in the Glynn County Digest.

The Glynn County Tax Commissioner's office provided incorrect values for the millage rate, said Public Relations Director for Glynn County Schools Jim Weidhass.

The original figure of $100,435,550 was off by about $7.7 million.

Weidhass says he does not know how the error happened.

The Glynn County School System held a meeting Monday morning and approved advertising a revised rollback millage rate of 16.157. The board is expected to have a final vote to approve the 2015 millage rate at a special meeting on July 28.

Weidhass says the school system will not receive the $7 million. He says the correct values in the Glynn County Tax Digest will provide an additional $124,000 in property taxes for the school system.
