Glynn County issues boil-water advisory for some residents

Glynn County has issued a precautionary boil water advisory.

The Glynn County Water & Sewer Commission advises residents to boil your water for at least three minutes before using.

This boil water advisory is being published as a warning for those who live in, work in, or travel through the affected area which can be found below.

The entire South Mainland water system lost pressure the morning of Monday Jan. 8 due to a broken PVC main, repairs are currently being worked on.

Testing the water following repairs will take between 44 and 48 hours due to the presence of restaurants, day-care facilities, and schools in the area.

An all-clear should be posted Wednesday Jan. 10.

The Glynn County Joint Water & Sewer Commission provided the following tips on what you should do if you are in the affected areas, which could be found on the map.

> Do not drink the water without boiling it first. Bring ALL water to a rolling boil for at least three minutes and let it cool before using, or use bottled water.

> Bathing, showering and toilet flushing may be performed using water from the tap without boiling it.

> Inadequately treated water may contain disease-causing organisms which include bacteria, viruses, and parasites.

> These organisms may cause symptoms such as diarrhea, cramps, nausea, headaches, and other symptoms.

> They may pose a special health risk for infants, young children, elderly, and people with compromised immune systems.

> If you experience these symptoms and they persist, you may want to seek medical attention.
