Group of bicyclists riding for adoption awareness stops in Jacksonville

A group of bicyclists arrived in Jacksonville on Wednesday as part of its worldwide ride from the Ukraine to deliver one message - let's live in a world without orphans.

“We did it for orphans,” says Pastor Gennadiy Mokhnenko, leader of the the World Without Orphans Bike Tour. “I have strange story, I have 32 adopted children and some of them were homeless.”

Mokhnenko has pedaled his message of love 17,000 miles in 14 countries since 2011 and in the United States since May.
They started in Southern California and made their way across the country and are going through Jacksonville on their way to Miami.
According to the Florida Department of Children and Families, there are about 800 children available for adoption in Florida and 24,316 in foster care.

Mokhnenko’s mission was even turned into a 2016 documentary called “Almost Holy”

“You have amazing country but many orphans, please don’t be afraid adopt them,” pleads Mokhnenko.

It’s a plea he hopes is adopted.
