JFRD: Home, church hit by lightning in Arlington

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — The Jacksonville Fire and Rescue Department responded Thursday afternoon to a house fire on Masters Ridge Drive in Hidden Hills Country Club near Monument and McCormick roads in Arlington.

The fire has been confirmed by firefighters on the ground to be caused by a lightning strike. The 2,400-square-foot home sustained damage to its attic and the fire is out.

Another nearby structure, FaithBridge Church on McCormick Road, was also struck by lightning. The lightning somehow forces a sprinkler system to go offf. The electrical room on the church property was hit by the lightning and there was no apparent fire due to the strike, so fire crews left the church.
