Clay County family 'in shock' after remains found at Keystone Heights home

UPDATE, 12/11/17: Clay County authorities have positively identified the body of Jordan Cooper using dental records.

Original story below:

A Clay County family says they are shocked after remains were found at a Keystone Heights home during the search for a missing 25-year-old woman.

Clay County Sheriff Darryl Daniels announced the remains were found at the home on Payne Road two weeks after Jordan Cooper was reported missing.

Luca Harvey tells Action News Jax that she and other volunteers were searching for Cooper Saturday when they saw patrol cars outside Cooper's home.

“There was police officers everywhere and cars everywhere,” Harvey said. “We didn’t even get out of our vehicles before we were told to leave.”

She says deputies later told her a body was found.

“We got an update between 7:30 p.m. and 8 p.m. that Jordan’s body was found in the house,” Harvey said.

Harvey says she coordinated searches for Cooper every day for more than a week. She said people from all over the area came to help.

“They came from all over – Hawthorne, Jacksonville, Middleburg. All over the area. And joined together just to look for Jordan. And that was a pretty good feeling,” she said.

Dolly Cooper, Jordan’s aunt, sent Action News Jax a statement:

“We are still in shock and grief and ask that everyone please be respectful at this time. We thank the volunteers, Clay County PD, and everyone who has supported us in the search for Jordan. I and my family are grateful beyond words for everything everyone has done.

"This is a terrible situation that we hope no family will ever have to experience. Clay County is still working on the case and we express that everyone be respectful to them as well so they can due their due diligence to find out what happened."

George Leath and his wife live down the road from Cooper’s house. They say neighbors are uneasy after the remains were found.

“We would never have expected to see something like that happen in this little community,” George Leath said. “The fact that we don’t know all the details yet makes it worse on us."

Officials are not releasing many details about the remains because they say it could compromise the investigation.
