Hurricane Irma: Northeast Florida, Southeast Georgia school makeup days

School districts in Northeast Florida and Southeast Georgia have begun announcing what days -- if any -- will be considered makeup days due to missed school during Hurricane Irma.

The Florida Department of Education has waived two days of student make-up time. Here are the makeup days that have been announced district-by-district:

Duval County

The Duval County School Board has approved the following dates as make-up dates for the days missed during Hurricane Irma: February 2 (previous weather day) and six early-release days converted into full instruction days: Nov. 1, Nov. 15, Jan. 17, Feb. 28, March 14 and May 16.

St. Johns County

SJCSD students missed six instructional days due to Hurricane Irma. The Florida Department of Education has waived two days of student make-up time and the SJCSD has also waived two days. Students will make up the following two days:

Monday, October 16 (Planning Day/Student Holiday)
Friday, November 10 (Veterans Day)

Putnam County

Putnam County School District hurricane makeup days will be Tuesday, October 17 and Wednesday, November 22 and Tuesday, January 9.

Baker County

Following school closures due to Hurricane Irma, the district has been discussing possible options related to regaining valuable instructional time, the Baker County School District has made a decision to replace the seven remaining early dismissal days with regular full days of instruction. We believe this is a good decision and in the best interest of our students and their education.

Instead of dismissing students two hours early on October 4, November 1, December 6, February 14, March 7, March 30, and May 11, students will be dismissed at the regularly scheduled times.

Union County

From Union County School Board member Becky Raulerson's Facebook page: "Great news for those who have asked me about make-up days for those missed due to Hurricane Irma. Mr. Faulk just confirmed that we will NOT have any make-up days! The 2017-18 academic calendar will remain the same as scheduled."

Ware County

Students will not be required to make up the lost days resulting from Hurricane Irma; however, all staff members will be required to make up the missed days to meet the terms of their contracts. All scheduled holidays will remain intact for students and staff members at this time.

Brantley County

Please note that due to school cancellation for Hurricane Irma, the Brantley County Board of Education has updated the school calendar.

Two important changes for students:

Tuesday, October 10, 2017 - Students will report to school.

December 20, 2017 - School will be a full day.
