Inspector didn't close eatery after roaches found by Atlantic Beach seafood spot

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — This week no restaurants were shut down, but inspectors told each restaurant with the most high-priority violations to stop selling certain items because of temperature abuse.

Action News Jax visited Seafood Kitchen in Atlantic Beach. A health inspector cited it for having live and dead roaches near an outside refrigerated unit and issued a stop sale on sweet potatoes for temperature abuse. An employee told Action News Jax anchor Romney Smith the pest control issues outside never reached the inside kitchen or dining room. A follow-up inspection is required.

At Pita King Two on Edgewood Avenue, an inspector issued a stop sale on canned salmon and coleslaw due to temperature abuse. Inspectors noted temperature issues with grits, chicken and hamburgers, and a food contact surface wasn’t cleaned after it was used. It was given a clean review during a follow-up inspection.

At Sliders Oyster Bar in Neptune Beach, an inspector saw so many flies in the bar area they noted there were “too many to count.” The inspector issued a stop sale on dill tzatziki sauce because of temperature issues and measured pork and crab cakes that were held too warm. It received a clean review during a follow-up inspection.
