Investigators collect evidence from triple murder suspect's truck

Police continued to investigate a triple murder on Tuesday night, collecting evidence from suspect Murray Lancaster’s truck.

Police say on Tuesday morning, Lancaster kidnapped his ex-girlfriend Valorie Short, then killed her and her father before killing his ex-wife Erica Green.

“Once we were at one scene, we got a 911 call that there was another shooting,” said Kimberly Robinson, public information officer for the Green Cove Springs Police Department.

Exclusive video from Sky Action News Jax, Jacksonville's only news helicopter, captured how police and the SWAT team surrounded Lancaster at his home in Green Cove Springs.

“Told us that we had to go, that we were in the line of fire,” said neighbor Shelby Weisbrodt.

The active scene caused concern across county lines. More than 20 miles away in Palatka, Lancaster’s former workplace, Georgia-Pacific, was on lockdown. Lancaster allegedly made threats after he was fired last week.

“Employees are a bit shaken that something of this nature could happen,” said Terry Hadaway, Georgia-Pacific public affairs manager.

A short time later, police found Lancaster dead from a self-inflicted gunshot wound, in a camper trailer in a barn, ending the manhunt and several lockdowns.

“I never think it would be this close and everything. Lancasters have always been quiet people,” Weisbrodt said.

Late Tuesday evening, family members of Lancaster returned to the family’s home. Evidence technicians finished their work and the truck was returned to the family.
