Jacksonville city leaders discuss funding to help combat domestic violence

Jacksonville city leaders are discussing funding to help combat local domestic violence.

Tuesday, members of the city council spoke with JSO about $65,000 for additional training for detectives and officers handling those types of cases.

JSO says that funding comes from forfeited money from domestic violence cases. Investigators say that training includes instruction on victims’ rights, and how to help victims.

“This is one piece to the overall picture, so I would say there is a lot more resources that go towards that particular crime,” Undersheriff Pat Ivey said.

On Tuesday, city leaders unanimously voted to approve that the proposed funding go to the full city council next week for possible approval.
