Jacksonville college unveils new community field, track and football stadium

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — Major improvements are coming to one of Jacksonville’s historic schools.

Today Edward Waters College took another step towards unveiling a new community field, track and football stadium called Nat Glover Community Field and Stadium with a ground blessing.

“Being able to name it after someone like [Glover], it’s someone [youth] can resonate with. It is a great thing,” mother of 3 Damika Colbert said.

In April, Action News Jax first reported how a multi-million-dollar grant from the City of Jacksonville will turn a grass practice field on campus into a turf field with stadium seating.

“It puts us on the same playing field as all the other teams in our conference. We have a place that we can finally call home,” EWC Athletic Director Stanley Cromartie told Action News Jax in April.

In a media release from EWC, the school said: The Nat Glover Community Field and Stadium is part of the $8.5 million upgrade given to EWC by the City of Jacksonville.  It will serve as community field because the community will have access to the walking track and community little league football games will be played here.

Tuesday, EWC also cut the ribbon at the James Weldon Johnson Building that is the home for the school’s department of Teacher Education and Urban Youth Studies Program.
