Jacksonville Facebook Live video appears to show toddler holding gun

New Facebook Live video appears to show a toddler holding a gun and pointing it at someone.

Sources told Action News Jax the video was shot Wednesday in Jacksonville.

On Thursday, we learned the Department of Children and Families is looking into it.

A DCF representative said the agency is “very concerned” by what is shown in the video, and it is working to get additional information.

Action News Jax spoke with a woman who said she was watching the Facebook Live in real time.

Fearing retaliation, she asked to have her voice disguised.

“She was recording herself so, all of a sudden, she flipped the camera and, when she flipped the camera, it was the little girl holding a gun,” she said.

“She was screaming, and she ended the live video, and she deleted it,” the woman said.

The mother of the 1-year-old girl declined to be interviewed, but she said she was recording the video.

She said the gun was fake.

“You can tell it’s a real gun all because of how she reacted,” the viewer said.  “And she ended the live video so quick.”

We brought the video to Action News Jax Law and Safety Expert Dale Carson.

He has been working with guns almost his whole life.

“Is that (gun) real?” Action News Jax reporter Russell Colburn asked Carson.

“I mean, it looks to be real,” Carson said.  “He’s holding it with two hands. That means it’s heavy.”

“This is a crime,” Carson said.  “If it’s a real gun and that child has access to the gun, it’s a misdemeanor, right there.”

Action News Jax also brought the video to the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office.

So far, all we’ve heard back is that police did not respond to the home in question Wednesday.
