Jacksonville families without power for at least 10 days

Several Jacksonville families say they haven't had electricity in days and on Monday night, they have nowhere to go.

Kingsbury apartment tenants told Actions News Jax that firefighters turned off the electricity over the weekend because it wasn’t safe. The families said firefighters put some of them in a hotel.

Jasmine Howard, a tenant, and her four children had been camping out on her porch for the past 10 days. She said management isn’t helping.

“I have four small children," Howard said. "What am I supposed to do?”

Howard said she and her children are just hanging around outside. “We are literally out here on the porch with everything we own,” she said. Her apartment and four others are without power.

“The lights started flickering," Howard said. "The air conditioner stopped working. I could no longer use my stove.”

She said she contacted management, but no one came to turn the power back on. She said she then contacted firefighters who said they had shut down the power.

She said the firefighters put her family and others in a hotel for two nights. But now, she and the others are back at their apartments, and they are still without power.

Action News Jax tried to contact management and received a message saying the phone had been disconnected.

Action News Jax also visited the maintenance office but no one answered.

“Why am I still homeless, with a home?” Howard asked.
