Jacksonville family frustrated by lack of information in man's death

A Jacksonville family says they have no answers about how their loved one died more than a week after police found him dead in a ditch.

Jamie Anderson’s body was found in front of a home on Bowden Road on Nov. 24. His family members gathered at Boone Park Saturday to remember him.

His son Austin Anderson said his dad was a hard worker who loved his two sons.

“He really knew how to love,” he said. “He loved me and my brother to death, and he loved everybody.”

The 48-year-old worked as a roofer with his brother for more than 20 years, and helped take care of their mom.

“He was a good, caring person,” his brother Gary Anderson said. “He would always help people. He would do whatever he could for people.”

Family members told Action News Jax's Brittney Donovan that it’s hard to grieve when they don’t know how he died.

“You’re not sure what to feel,” Jamie’s son Austin Anderson said. “You don’t know if there was any foul play involved, or if it was just an accident.”

Police said Anderson may have been hit by a car, but it wasn’t clear how he died.

"We don't sleep anymore because we don't know what's going on and we don't want to miss a call," Jamie Anderson's sister-in-law Lisa Anderson said.

Family members and Crime Stoppers are offering a $6,500 reward for any information about his death.

"If it was an accident, it was an accident. But you still can't just walk away from it and think it's OK," Lisa Anderson said. "We need to know what happened."
