Jacksonville family says dog walked more than a mile to find them after Irma

A Jacksonville family says their dog tracked them to a home more than a mile away after they were displaced because of Hurricane Irma.

According to a post on NextDoor, the family was staying at a friend's house on Forbes Street and their dog Piper was at their relative's home more than a mile away.

The family says Piper got spooked when a smoke alarm went off at their relative's house. She escaped under a fence.

The family searched all over the neighborhood for more than an hour. according to the post.

When they went back to their friend's house, they heard a noise on the front porch.

"Piper was on his porch panting, having walked over a mile from my mom's," a family member wrote. "Apparently she had gotten spooked and went searching for her human parents. I have no idea how she knew the route or where we were staying. I can't believe it."
