Jacksonville gym raises money for Orlando mass shooting victims, families

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — A local gym has raised at least $5,000 for the OneOrlando fund, which goes to help the families of the victims and survivors.

Hundreds of people from Orange Theory Fitness pushed through the pain to stand with those involved in the Orlando mass shooting.

These same participants also worked out for 90 minutes to pour sweat into the message that they stand united with Orlando.

Jumps, squats and running; this workout wasn’t all about burning calories, instead it raising money for a good cause.

"As humans, to be able to do that, to show support and stand in solidarity with other people, is just incredible," said Kerrie Fleming.

"People want to come together and support a good cause, even though it happened in our backyard," said Heath Ellenberger.

In a few hours, participants raised about $5,000. Owners told Action News Jax they're not stopping until they reach their goal of $10,000. You can support the cause by donating on their website BurnforOrlando. All money will be donated to the victims and their families.

“When this happened right in our own neighborhood right down the street in our sister city, we immediately knew we wanted to do something,” said Donna Fenchel.

There are other local businesses that are holding fundraisers for the 49 victims, their families and survivors. Hamburger Mary's Jacksonville held a benefit brunch, and Dahlia's Pour House held a fundraiser for Darryl Roman Burt's family.
