Jacksonville man describes trying to help shooting victim

Jacksonville neighbors said they heard a series of gunshots before a truck crashed into several cars and a fence in their neighborhood.

Officers were called to the intersection of Van Buren Avenue and Clyde Street just after 2 a.m. Sunday.

"I was asleep and next thing I know we’re hearing just gunshots," Thomas Franklin said. "I would say probably every bit of 15 to 20."

Franklin said his wife called 911. He ran outside and found a truck crashed into his fence. It was riddled with bullet holes.

"There was a guy laying in the passenger seat. He was full of holes and I mean blood just going everywhere," Franklin said. "He’s trying to breathe. I kept trying to talk to him. I was like, 'Look man, just stay with me, stay with me.'"

Franklin said paramedics began doing chest compressions as soon as they got to the scene.

A Jacksonville Sheriff's Office spokesperson said Tyreze Littlejohn, 29, was shot several times and died at a local hospital.

Neighbors say the truck he was in hit up to two cars before crashing into Franklin's fence.

The back window of a third car across the street was shattered.

JSO said it has no information about who shot the man.

Anyone who knows anything about the shooting is asked to call JSO or Crime Stoppers.
