Jacksonville man watches burglary of own home on smartphone app

A homeowner in Jacksonville’s Dinsmore neighborhood on the Northside caught on camera an intruder who was wandering through his home in the middle of the day.

Ronnie Dixon watched helplessly on his home security app’s live stream as a man broke into his house and then got away.

In the video, you can hear Dixon’s bedroom window shatter.

Minutes later, you can see his dogs, Allie and Paris, following the intruder around the house wagging their tails.
"They licked his ankles to death," said Dixon.

His home security system, Canary, starting live streaming the break-in to his phone within seconds.

"Invasion of privacy, right off the bat. What are you doing, unwelcome, into my home?" said Dixon.

Dixon said the intruder made off with a bunch of jewelry, including his wife’s class ring.

“I think my wife was more ticked off a little bit about stealing her pillow case to put the jewelry in. So that tells me this wasn’t his first heist,” said Dixon.

Dixon said he’s confident someone out there will recognize the burglar’s face.

“We work hard, we go to work every day. We earn everything we get. And you’ve got these kind of guys looking for a handout. We need to catch this guy,” said Dixon.

If you recognize the intruder who was caught on this camera, Dixon wants you to call the Jacksonville Sheriff's Office right away.
