Miller and Hare's girlfriend had been in a relationship for nine years.
They broke up 3½ years before the shooting, officers said.
Hare was finishing an engineering degree at UNF.
His mother said her son was a great student who always made the Dean’s List, and he was looking forward to finishing school to start working.
