Jacksonville native who now lives in Las Vegas 'thanked God' she's still alive after mass shooting

Action News Jax spoke with two women who are from Jacksonville and were in Las Vegas during Monday’s mass shooting.

Mary Blank grew up in Jacksonville Beach and recently moved to Las Vegas.

She was supposed to go to that concert, but wasn’t feeling up to it.

“Knowing that this is a couple miles down the road from me, it's pretty horrific,” Blank said.

Blank knows staying home may have saved her life.

"I can't stop shaking. I really can't stop shaking. I've cried, I've prayed, I've thanked God that I'm still alive, because my life could've been taken last night," Blank said.

Dianna Larkin just moved to Vegas from Clay County in June, and knows of someone who was injured in the shooting.

"My girlfriend, Laurie, her friend's daughter was shot in the back at the concert," Larkin said.  "She's made it through surgery. They were removing the shells. They had a neurosurgeon there getting the bullet fragments out, but no serious internal injuries, so she's going to be OK."

For Blank, the decision to stay home will stay with her the rest of her life.

She just hopes the injured and the families of the victims can find peace.

“I just pray for everyone involved, and just, stay safe,” Blank said.
