Jacksonville officer-involved crash sends 5 people to hospital

Two children and two adults were hurt in an accident involving a Jacksonville officer on Wednesday.

Investigators are still working to determine the cause of the four-car crash on San Jose Boulevard.

Assistant Chief Mat Nemeth told Action News Jax a Jacksonville Sheriff's Office officer was trying perform a routine traffic stop when the driver wouldn’t yield.

According to Nemeth, the driver of a blue car then slammed into the side of the patrol car and hit two other cars. He said two of the driver’s children and a third child were in the car at the time of the crash.

All three were taken to the hospital, where two were treated for injuries.

"The caretakers for those children are all with them or en route to the hospital to take control of the situation with their children," Nemeth said.

JSO said officers didn’t find anything suspicious inside the car or on scene.

Authorities said they were working to determine if the driver had any outstanding warrants.
