Jacksonville police: Man shot in car with child inside, suspect captured

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — The Jacksonville Sheriff's Office said a suspect has been captured in a shooting that happened on Aldington Drive in the Cedar Hills neighborhood on Tuesday night.

Police say a man and a child were in a car when shots were fired at them just before 7:40 p.m. The man in the car was hit; the child is OK, police say. Damage could be seen to the windshield and the driver's side window of the car.

The suspect's vehicle description was given to police and officers saw the vehicle and attempted to make a traffic stop.

Officers pursued the vehicle and after a short period of time, the suspect ran off the road and crashed into a fence in the 6100 block of Goodwin Road, police said.

Police said a K-9 officer was brought in to search for the suspect, and that suspect was caught. The suspect was been bitten by the K-9, officers said.

The suspect had minor injuries from the K-9 bite that were treated at the scene and did not require treatment at the hospital, so the suspect remained in police custody.

JSO said the man who was shot was taken to the hospital and he was released after getting medical treatment.
