Witnesses describe hearing shootout near intersection of Atlantic and San Pablo in Jacksonville

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — The Jacksonville Sheriff's Office is investigating a shooting that happened Thursday evening near the intersection of San Pablo Road and Atlantic Boulevard.

“I was freaked out, I was on my way to pick up my kids from school,” witness, Lauren McGuinness said.

McGuinness said she was waiting for the light to turn green on Atlantic Boulevard when she heard at least five gunshots.

“I was in disbelief, I mean, I called my best friend and was like, ‘You won’t believe what I just witnessed,’” McGuinness said.

She said the gunshots were coming from a black Dodge Challenger and she said the driver quickly pulled into the parking lot of the Daily’s gas station at the intersection of San Pablo and Atlantic.

“A young, black individual got out and he was like pointing the gun kind of toward traffic. I guess they were waiting for somebody,” McGuinness said.

Police said someone was shot on Atlantic Boulevard before running into the Daily's convenience store.
Sources tell Action News Jax that the victim is 19 years old and was shot twice in the back and once in the side.

“I didn’t expect that, I was just chilling and then ‘pop, pop, pop,’” witness Zion Mincer said.

Another witness said he was dropping his girlfriend off at work when he heard at least five gunshots.

“There was somebody running, but I didn’t look at their face or anything. I saw him running, so I started running too,” Mincer said.

Action News Jax went into the gas station to speak with employees and get any surveillance video, but was told to call the corporate office. We reached out, but the office was already closed for the day.
