Jacksonville police looking for men who shot shopper outside Walmart

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — The Jacksonville Sheriff's Office continues to look for two gunmen who they said shot a 62-year-old man outside a Walmart parking lot Sunday night.

Police said the man was in his car when two suspects approached him. The victim told police they pointed a gun at him and told him to get out, even saying, “This is the real deal, old man.” The victim was shot twice, but was able to run into the store for help.

Witnesses said the two suspects ran down Cocoanut Road. Police searched the area and came across a white four-door vehicle that pulled out into the road. The officer checked the tag, found out the vehicle was stolen and continued to follow the car. The officer called for help, but the suspects got out of the car before more officers arrived.

Dozens of officers and police dogs searched the area, but the suspects weren’t found.

“For something like that to happen here is scary,” said shopper Brian Slucker.

Many shoppers said they are being vigilant and are only shopping when it’s light out.

“Just be aware of what’s going on. Try to be as safe as you can,” shopper Steve Jackson said.

“I definitely won’t shop late anymore, that’s for sure,” shopper Katie Slucker said.

Police said the victim suffered non-life-threatening injuries.
