The Jacksonville Sheriff's Office is investigating after a man was hit and killed by a vehicle near Atlantic Boulevard and Bowlan Street on Tuesday night.

Officers were dispatched to the crash at 8:15 p.m. Jacksonville Fire and Rescue Department took the man to a local hospital, where he later died.
The vehicle involved remained at the scene of the crash and the driver stayed to speak with JSO Traffic Homicide investigators.

Police were told that the man was crossing the road at the time he was hit by the car, which was traveling westbound on Atlantic Boulevard. Investigators do not know at this time if the man was crossing the road in a crosswalk.
