Man, woman arrested in deadly 2015 shooting in Jacksonville

Dwayne Wimberly

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — Jacksonville announced the arrest of a man and a woman in connection with a 2015 shooting death in Jacksonville.

The Jacksonville Sheriff's Office said Dwayne Wimberly and Shantae Oliver are charged in the death of Troy Culton.

Culton was killed in 2015 in a gas station parking lot on Jacksonville's Westside while putting air in his tires. The victim, who was a father of five, was shot in the chest in broad daylight.

“Rumor was the victim and his friends had beaten up one of Wimberly’s friends,” said JSO Lt. Steve Gallaher.

Police said Oliver was arrested as an accessory. Police said she was driving the car in which Wimberly got away.

JSO said witness testimony helped make the arrest in the case.

Wimberly was charged in an officer-involved shooting on April 22. He was convicted of gun charges and was sentenced to 20 years in prison. He has now been charged with murder.

JSO said they are not looking for any other suspects.
