Jacksonville students post video about violence after triple shooting

Jacksonville students are taking a stand against violence in their community after a deadly triple shooting at their high school.

The Raines High School students posted a video on Facebook that has been shared more than 1,200 times.

“Sadly we must address our classmates, all other schools and our community about the senseless shootings taking place in our neighborhoods including the one that took place on our campus Friday night,” the students said. “As students and stake holders, we urge you to inform a trusted adult at home and in your schools about any suspicious activities or threats of violence.”

Jacksonville officials announced Tuesday a 16-year-old Grand Park Alternative student was arrested after a 19-year-old was killed and two students were hurt Friday night at Raines.

Police say the suspect opened fire after the Raines versus Lee High School football game.

“This does not reflect the hard work happening at Raines High School,” Mayor Lenny Curry said at the Tuesday press conference. “This does not reflect the parents, the students, the principal over there doing hard work every day.

In the video, the Raines students encouraged classmates to come forward to help stop the violence.

“If you see something or hear something, you must say something immediately,” one student said.

Many people on Facebook applauded them for speaking up, calling them future leaders.

The students said they are praying for the victims in the shooting.
