Jacksonville woman whose friend was hit, killed by car: 'I'm not coping with this well at all'

Jacqueline Thompson is still struggling with the loss of her best friend, Shafonda Boynton.

“I just never thought in a million years that would be the last time I would see my friend,” Thompson said.

Thompson and Boynton were both hit by a car Wednesday, after the Jacksonville Sheriff's Office said John Perry ran them down in Boynton's front yard.

Thompson said there was an argument over gas money, after Boynton borrowed Perry’s car.

“I was willing to give him the gas money. He didn’t want the gas money from me,” Thompson said.

Boynton didn’t survive.

“I saw her legs all busted open, it was terrible,” Thompson said.

Boynton was a mother, and her three kids were asleep inside of the home when she was hit.

“I could hear her calling her daughter’s name. I never knew she was stuck between the burglar bar and the car,” Thompson said.

Thompson also suffered injuries to her legs and hasn’t been able to walk because she’s in pain.

“I’m having anxiety, I’m having cold sweats cause I hear her calling my name, jumping in my sleep I’m not coping with this well at all,” Thompson said.
