Jax Beach sushi spot cited for fish issues

JACKSONVILLE BEACH, Fla. — Health inspectors found temperature violations and dirty dishes in this week's restaurant report.

Action News Jax anchor Romney Smith visited Sushi Palace in Jacksonville Beach after it was cited by health inspectors.

A health inspector cited the Sushi Palace because its tilapia hadn’t undergone proper parasite destruction.  The rice and soup were cold, and the restaurant’s dish cleaner was too weak to clean, health inspectors said.

A manager told Smith that the health inspector made a mistake when inspecting the seafood.

“They don’t see the second page. Every invoice when they come has this form,” said the manager.

He was referring to a valid certificate of compliance from the fish order that was originally cited in the health violation. The restaurant's follow-up inspection was clean.

A health inspector at Cedar River Seafood in Fernandina Beach saw live roaches in the kitchen and dead roaches in the cooler. The inspector issued a stop sale on 13 items, including oysters, chicken and frog legs, because of temperature abuse. The restaurant has had two follow-up health inspections, and another is required to address multiple issues.

At Jessica’s Bistro in Lake City, a health inspector found eight cold items held too warm, a dead roach and dish machine cleaner too weak to clean. A follow-up inspection is required.
