JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — STORY: JSO officer killed when patrol car crashes on slick I-295
A Jacksonville officer was taken to the hospital with non life-threatening injuries after he crashed into a tree on the Westside Friday morning.
At approximately 7:24 a.m., the Jacksonville Sheriff's Office officer was completing paperwork in the parking lot of the Abundant Life Church on Wilson Boulevard, when he was called for backup by another officer on 103rd Street.

The other officer was chasing a suspect. When the JSO officer began to leave the church parking lot in his patrol car, he struck a tree, authorities said.
The name of the officer has not been released pending notification of next of kin.

JSO said no other officer or citizen was involved in the crash.
Police said the patrol car appears to be totaled.
The suspect the other officer was chasing is in custody, police said.
