Officer hit by vehicle while pursuing narcotics suspect

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — A Jacksonville Sheriff's Officer was hit by a vehicle while working with other officers on a narcotics investigation in Springfield on Wednesday afternoon.

The crash took place near West Eighth and North Laura streets.

When Officer Kreshnik Isaraj stepped into the road to pursue a suspect, he did not see an oncoming vehicle that ended up hitting him, according to JSO Undersheriff Dwain Senterfitt.

Firefighters told Action News the officer was thrown 50 feet and is at UF Health with head injuries. Senterfitt said Isaraj was complaining that his legs, ankles and knees hurt.

Senterfitt said Isaraj perhaps did not see the car because another officer was getting out of the vehicle at the same time and may have obstructed his view.

The suspect Isaraj was pursuing was taken into custody by other officers, Senterfitt said, but the suspect's name and charges were not immediately available.

The driver of the vehicle that hit Isaraj is presently not facing charges.
