Judge orders man accused of shooting at Jacksonville nightclub held without bail

A judge has ordered the man accused of fatally shooting and killing a 24-year-old man outside a Jacksonville nightclub be held without bail.

Police say Toray Ricketts, 24, got into a fight outside Suite at Town Center early Friday, pulled out a gun and shot Sina Sharifai, 24.

In court Saturday morning, Action News Jax cameras caught Ricketts looking back several times, including staring right into our camera. At one point, he looks back and says something, then looks down and shakes his head.

He also had conversations with an inmate sitting next to him.

Police say around 2 a.m. Ricketts got into an argument with Sharifai, who witnesses say was trying to be a peacemaker in another disagreement. Investigators say Ricketts pulled a gun from his waistline and fired two shots. Sharifai tried to run but was shot and killed.

The club closed its doors Friday night. It posted this message, “We will be closed out of respect as we join the community in prayer.”

On Saturday morning, the judge asked Ricketts if he was going to hire an attorney. Ricketts told the judge his fiancee was going to and that she was in the courtroom.

The judge asked where, and Ricketts looked back and gave a kissy face.

Ricketts was ordered held without bail and will be back in court April 17 for his arraignment.
