Jury selection details have been released in for the trial of former U.S. Rep. Corrine Brown, who is accused of using donations to a phony charity called One Door for Education for her personal use.

Action News Jax requested documents from the Jacksonville's district court that include instructions for jury selection in Brown's trial:

  • April 24-25 :Jury selection planning for two days in which 39 people will be randomly summoned for the prospective jury pool.
  • Twelve jurors and two alternative jurors will be chosen for the trial.
  • April 26: Opening statements and the start of the trial that in the U.S. Courthouse in Jacksonville.

The trial is expected to last two weeks.

The government’s witnesses in the trial will include One Door for Education donors, Brown’s tax preparer, FBI and IRS agents and a forensic accountant.

Brown’s attorney, James Smith, plans to call two elected officials as witnesses, but would not identify them.

The judge instructed the attorneys involved in this case not to make any statements to the media once the trial begins.

Brown's former chief of staff, Ronnie Simmons, pleaded guilty in February to two federal charges.

Prosecutors said Brown's political connections raised more than $800,000 for the charity, but Simmons admitted in federal court that it handed out only two scholarships, totaling $1,200.
