Local attorney John Phillips is representing her in this case.
The lawsuit accuses Manigault Newman of failing to file a financial disclosure report after her departure from the White House.
Phillips said the accusation that Manigault Newman "knowingly and willfully" failed to file is untrue. In a statement, Phillips said in part, "This is premature, retaliatory and yet another attempt to silence a dissenting voice."
Phillips said Manigault Newman has no comment at this time.
