Kid Care Report: DCF gives violation for fire drill issue

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — Every week, Action News Jax investigates local child care centers to show you how they measure up to state guidelines.

In this week's Kid Care Report, Letisha Bereola visited two day cares, and one of them had a violation involving a fire drill.

The first day care in this week's Kid Care Report is Future Duck Early Learning Center off Brentwood Ave.

An inspector with the Florida Department of Children and Families dropped in and gave the center a class 2 violation, which could pose a threat to the health and safety of a child, according to the Florida Department of Children and Families.

That was because a teacher didn't bring the attendance record with her during a fire drill. That list is used to account for all children in case of a fire. The report said the teacher forgot to bring it.

Bereola stopped by to see if the center wanted to talk about the violation but no one came to the door.

She left her number for the director. If she hears back, she'll update this story.

The next day care in this week's Kid Care Report is Jewels Christian Academy on Normandy Boulevard.

A state inspector gave the center a class 2 violation for not having the proper insurance for a vehicle being used to transport children.

Bereola talked on the phone with the director who said the vehicle always had the required coverage but the paperwork was outdated.

She said the correct paperwork was handed over on the spot. DCF still gave the day care the violation.
