Deputies: 1 man speaking with deputies, 1 man sought in West Augustine man's shooting death

Deputies are searching for two men wanted for questioning in the death of a 28-year-old West Augustine man.

A teddy bear lies near Christopher and Herbert streets, where Lavert Durden's body was found Friday.

Family was gathered for a vigil just blocks away when his aunt Frankie Durden-Williams said they got the call about his death.

“All I can say is it hurts,” she said. “To see my baby laying down there on that ground.”

Deputies say minutes before he was shot multiple times, he got into a fight with two men -- Brandon Calloway and Traevon Watson.

They’re wanted for questioning.

Family says Lavert Durden was a brother, uncle and soon-to-be father. Durden-Williams said his baby girl was expected to be born in just a few months.

“I will love that baby so dearly, so dearly. Because I know that he would have if he was still here,” she said.

Lavert Durden was shot and killed exactly two years after his cousin Charles and Charles' friend Staffon Larry were murdered.

No arrests have been made two years after deputies say they were shot and killed. The car they were in was set on fire.

“There has been enough killing. It’s time to stop,” Durden-Williams said. "It's time for some peace."

Deputies are asking anyone who sees Brandon Calloway to call them immediately.

Calloway is described as a 30-year-old black male, 5-foot 4-inches tall, weighing 150 pounds with black hair and brown eyes.

If you see him you are asked to contact the St. Johns County Sheriff’s Office at 824-8304 or 911.
