Nationwide law enforcement to enforce 'Click it or Ticket'

National Highway Traffic Safety Administration

Law enforcement officials nationwide will be out in full force to take part in 2017's Click It or Ticket seatbelt enforcement operation.

The operation cracks down on motorists who are not belted.

Flagler County Sheriff’s Office deputies will take part in the operation starting May 22 in time for drivers traveling for the Memorial Day holiday.

Bunnell and Flagler Beach Police Departments, along with the Florida Highway Patrol, are also participating.

“As we kickoff the busy summer season, it is crucial that everyone buckles up every time they go out, day and night no excuses,” Sheriff Rick Staly said. “Our deputies are prepared to ticket anyone who is not wearing their seatbelt, including drivers that have neglected to properly buckle-up their children.”

According to the U.S. Department of Transportation’s National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), 9,874 passenger vehicle occupants killed in 2015 were not wearing their seat belts at the time of the crash.

The Click It or Ticket enforcement operation will run through June 4. The sheriff's office said it will still enforce seat belt laws year round.
