Local "Miracle on Hudson" survivor Casey Jones to deliver 500 turkeys for area families in need

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — Casey Jones, a local survivor of the Hudson River plance crash known as the 'Miracle on the Hudson' will donate 500 turkeys to the Salvation Army of Jacksonville Friday for area families in need.

Jones and the Salvation Army of Jacksonville will be giving the turkeys to families on Tuesday, Nov. 26, to those who applied for assistance.

The Salvation Army of Jacksonville said that Jones has held a turkey drive for them for the past 10 years.

"My 'Miracle on the Hudson' plane crash left me with a compassion for the homeless that I never would have had without going through the experience of seeing myself in the mirror dressed entirely in clothes given to me by others," Jones said. "Ten years ago, I was on my way to a speaking engagement in mid-November and I heard on the radio that the Salvation Army had not received nearly enough turkeys for the families that they help at Thanksgiving. I knew I had to do something about it."
