Local woman's home hit with bullets, multiple instances, while children are inside

Brunswick, GA. — Dozens of bullets hit several homes with kids inside. One woman said her home was hit three different times in just the last month.

“Bullet hole here, bullet hole here,” said Claudette Hudson.

As Hudson looked at bullet hole after bullet hole after bullet hole, 18 in total, she asked why someone would shoot up her house.

“I don’t know why, I don’t know why,” she said.

Hudson lives there with her two granddaughters.

“Went through the window, hit the wall and ricochet to the other wall, and if she would’ve sit up, she would’ve got dead in the forehead,” Hudson said.

Just down the road on Reynolds Street – another close call.

“If I would’ve stood up, instead of hitting the floor, I would’ve been hit, I probably would’ve been hit,” said a mother who didn’t want to be identified.

She told Action News Jax her home was hit three different times in the last month. At least 10 bullets hit her home, and each time she said she was inside with her four young kids.

“My kids could’ve been hit, it’s so frightening,” she said.

There are a lot of kids in the neighborhood. And that’s why neighbors are nervous about all the gunfire.

“They zoom by, cars flying by shooting up houses, people getting out of cars shooting,” said Ashley Culbreath, a neighbor.

Brunswick police said they added extra officers in the area.

But the fear is still there for some.

“I’m worried, I’m scared, I’m crying every day, because I don’t know what else to do,” said a neighbor.

As for Hudson, she’s packing up and leaving.

“Just got to go,” she said.

Neighbors said they believe the shootings are gang related. In April, Brunswick’s police of chief said gangs are a problem. And a lot of violent crimes are gang-related.

He said there are around 26 gangs throughout the county.
