Locals want garbage left on the ground at Mayport Plaza removed

A pile of garbage is continuing to stack up near a local tavern.

Neighbors told us the Mayport Plaza is an eyesore and daily it keeps getting worse. Cardboard boxes, plastic foam and broken pieces of wood lay near a former Dumpster site in a nearly vacant parking lot.

Locals told us for a month, the trash has continued to pile up and nobody is claiming responsibility. We contacted Market Masters, who manages the property for the owners, about the trash overflow. It told Action News Jax this is its first time hearing about the complaints.

Angela Weber, who works in the Mayport Plaza, told us three weeks ago Advanced Disposal came and picked up the Dumpster and left the trash on the ground.

“We haven’t had anyone paying the lease on it for a while, so they just picked up the actual dumpster and didn’t clean up around it,“ said Weber.

We spoke with Advanced Disposal management, which told us its job isn’t to pick up items outside of the container. It said the clutter on the ground falls on the building ownership and that illegal trash dropping is what’s causing the trash flow.

Advanced Disposal told me they’d pick up the leftover trash if the owners are willing to pay a fee.
