The man accused of killing a St. Johns County priest reportedly tried to kill himself in jail.
Burke County Sheriff Greg Coursey confirmed to WRDW/WAGT that Steven Murray tried to hang himself in his jail cell around 6:30 p.m. Tuesday.
Murray was taken to the hospital to be checked out before returning to jail.
Murray is accused of killing St. Augustine priest Father Rene Robert and leaving his body in Burke County, Ga.
Last week, the state of Georgia filed a letter of intent to seek the death penalty against Murray. Days after Father Rene was reported missing in April, Murray was captured in Aiken County, S.C.
