Jacksonville man arrested for carjacking, holding a teen hostage, police said

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — A Jacksonville man is behind bars after police said he carjacked a teen and then held him hostage.

The incident happened Friday at a gas station on Liberty Street and 8th Street.

Henry Caine, 19, said he had just finished pumping gas, and while sitting in his car texting, a man jumped inside the passenger seat with a gun and started shouting out orders.

“It was terrifying, I was just in my head praying like please Lord don’t let me get shot,” Caine said.

Police said Omar Mustafa is allegedly responsible after jumping in Caine’s car with a weapon.

Caine said after Mustafa got inside the car he forced him to drive around the city.

“I just did everything he told me to do and I got another chance at life,” Caine.

He said they even picked up a woman along the way who Caine believes didn’t know the car was stolen.

“Actually she did not know the guy told the lady that I was his nephew,” Caine said.

Caine said Mustafa took his driver’s license and threatened to hurt him and his family if he didn’t comply with his demands.

“I could’ve been another victim on the Jacksonville homicide list,” Caine said.

He eventually made a run for it and managed to escape. He said he knocked on several doors before someone finally let him call police.

However, he said he has not been able to get the memory of the incident out of his head.

“Yeah, I ran, I just ran to the nearest house I could. Every time I sit in the car I just picture him pointing a gun at me,” Caine said.

Police arrested Mustafa shortly after in a traffic stop.

Mustafa now faces multiple charges including kidnapping and carjacking with a firearm or deadly weapon.
