Man arrested after reportedly dropping baby off second-floor balcony

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — A 54-year-old man faces several charges after he reportedly hit a victim and dropped a baby from a second-floor balcony.

The Jacksonville Sheriff's Office responded Sunday evening to a Jacksonville apartment complex.

The victim told police that Herman Huffman hit and punched her several times in the face. JSO said Huffman dropped the baby off a second-floor balcony and the baby hit the concrete below.

The victim told police she believed Huffman left and went inside the apartment after picking up the child.

JSO went inside the apartment, but found Huffman in the car with the child. JSO said the child was crying, had a bump on the head and red mark on her nose.

The victim told police she Herman Huffman have been married for a few months. Officials noticed swelling and bruising to victim's face. The baby was alert and conscious, and was taken to UF Health for treatment.

Huffman was charged with child neglect and battery.

The Department of Children and Families was notified, according to JSO.
