Man recalls jumping into 'ice water' to save woman from sinking car

A local man who helped rescue a woman in a sinking car on Tuesday night is talking only to Action News Jax.

It all unfolded in Lake Asbury. The rescuer, Ryan Bourdon, watched as the car drove off the road and into the pond.

Bourdon was sitting at the intersection when the woman’s car veered off the road. He pulled over and didn’t even think twice and jumped in.

“I was on a mission to get her back to safety,” Bourdon said.

Bourdon said the water was very cold.

“It’s like ice water … that’s what it felt like.”

Bourdon said another man jumped in to help. He was treading water when he helped the driver get out of her car.

“She was pulled out of the window. When the car…it started to sink real quick. So she kind of popped out real quick,” Bourdon said.

This is the second time a car has driven into a pond in four days. On Sunday, we talked to yet another Good Samaritan who jumped in to save a driver in a submerged car.

Bourdon said he was simply following the golden rule; treat others how you want to be treated.

“They were saying it was heroic, you know, but I hope someone would do the same for me,” Bourdon said.

Bourdon said the woman told him her tire blew out and that’s what sent her into the pond.
