“Usually we’re in our dorm. We have curfew,” said EWC student Humphrey

The Jacksonville Sheriff's Office said a man was headed home after a night out with friends.

When he passed Sassy’s Wings and More, JSO said, two men told him to stop. When he didn’t, a man came from behind with a gun and he was attacked.

Police say the men stole his phone, shoes and money.

According to the report, the man said he lost consciousness. When he came to hours later, he walked home, where his roommate called police.

Humphrey said she was alerted of the incident by her school.

“We also get emails and alerts when something's going on,” Humphrey said.

EWC said they have a device on their campus called ShotSpotter.

The technology uses sensors to pick up the sound of gunfire and then pinpoints how many shots were fired within about 80 feet.

We called and emailed EWC multiple times to see if ShotSpotter picked up last night’s gunfire and alerted police. We’re waiting to hear back.
