Man shot in face, hand during argument at Westside Jacksonville home

A man is expected to recover after police said he was shot in the face and hand Sunday morning at his Westside home.

The Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office dispatched officers to the home on Banyan Drive around 5 a.m.

Police said they found a man in his mid-20s and does not have life-threatening gunshot wounds. He was taken to UF Health.

Investigators said an argument between the victim and an acquaintance led to the shooting.

Action News Jax spoke exclusively with a close friend of the victim who said the suspect got angry when he was told to leave the victim’s home because it was late.

A friend said the suspect refused to leave and that’s when things escalated.

“He was just trying to tell him to leave. The argument just happened. Like, they just started arguing, saying things back and forth, and one thing led to another,” the friend said.

The friend also said the victim’s family told him he’s in stable condition.

Police said the suspect was gone by the time they arrived, but they said he drove back while they were still investigating.

He was taken into custody. Police did not say if the suspect is facing charges.
