Man stabbed by stranger on Five Points sidewalk

A Jacksonville man is in the hospital after he was stabbed by a stranger in Five Points.

The Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office report said Jordan White and other witnesses did not recognize the man who stabbed White in the back.

After White’s shift as a server at Orsay on Sunday night, he met up with friends 2 miles away on Park Street.

Birdies manager Michael Burks said White was stabbed on the sidewalk between the bar and Wolfgang, the clothing shop next door.

“Somebody came up behind him and stabbed him in the back with a really long black knife,” said White’s boss Jason Eddy, managing partner at Orsay.

Eddy said a metal clipboard in White’s backpack diverted the knife away from a major artery.

“Jordan was like, ‘Why would you do that?’ And the guy was like, ‘I’m the tin man,’ and then just kind of runs off into the night,” said Eddy.

Burks said he checked Birdies’ surveillance cameras, but they didn’t capture the stabbing.

“We have cameras that point toward the sidewalk, but once you get to a certain area – for here and past, we don’t have any, you know, visual,” said Burks. “[White] comes in here all the time and never causes any trouble. Always a good guy.”

JSO’s crime mapping system shows four assaults and two robberies reported within a half-mile of the stabbing within the past month.

“Just being that close to the hospital and stuff like that, we get all type of figures that walk around here,” said Burks.

Multiple workers on Park Street told Action News Jax they worry about walking alone at night.

One woman who works at a different bar nearby said she’s too afraid to work at night now that she’s pregnant.

“It’s disappointing to hear because it’s an area that makes Jacksonville very unique,” said Will Landay, who regularly visits Five Points.

Landay said the stabbing won’t stop him from coming to Five Points.

“I would feel very comfortable, very safe here. Because, again, always a lot of people around. A lot of lights and activity,” said Landay.

White's co-workers are planning a fundraiser for him on Memorial Day at Orsay.

It’s a day the restaurant is usually closed, but instead his co-workers are “Working a Shift for Jordan.”

“The dude’s the nicest guy. And we just really don’t want him to be bothered with paying his bills, making sure he can keep a roof over his head during this time when really what he needs to be focusing on is recovery,” said Eddy.

The fundraiser will be Monday at Orsay from 5-10 p.m.

If you can't come to the fundraiser, but would still like to support White, you can find more information here.
